At Avieco, we’re committed to leading by example. We track and manage our environmental and social impact with the same rigour we employ for our clients. Sustainability is at the core of our purpose, and we couldn’t claim we contribute to creating a better world if we didn’t follow best practices ourselves.
Setting ambitious targets
We are a signatory of the Pledge to Net Zero, which requires organisations to:

However, as a sustainability consultancy, we feel we must go above and beyond these minimum standards, and we, therefore, chose to raise the bar on each of the three requirements.
We set science-based targets in line with the most ambitious objective to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. We got our targets validated by the Science-Based Targets Initiative, using the SBTi’s streamlined validation process for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). As such, we committed to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 emissions 50% by 2030 from a 2018 base year, and to measure and reduce scope 3 emissions.
We calculate our own carbon footprint annually in line with the GHG Protocol guidance. This includes a full scope 3 screening, not limited to buildings and travel, but including all categories on which Avieco has operational control.
Finally, our whole team is committed to publicly advocating for net zero, through Avieco’s website and social media. Last year, we published 50+ opinion pieces, “how-to” guides, case studies and blog articles. More than a third of our team was involved in their writing, bringing in a diversity of experiences and perspectives to make a stronger case for net zero.
Measuring our impct
As a small service provider, despite our quick growth, we emit very little greenhouse gasses. Most of our emissions are due to our office’s energy consumption, business travel, and employee commuting.
In 2021, we didn’t do any business travel due to Covid restrictions. However, as demand for sustainability consulting services grew rapidly, we doubled our team size and bought equipment for new joiners, resulting in higher Purchased Goods & Services, Capital Goods and Employee Commuting emissions. We also moved to a larger office, causing an increase in direct and indirect building emissions.
As a result, our total footprint increased by 46% year on year, but our average emissions per employee remained stable at 3.6 tCO2e.

Taking bold action
We actively manage our greenhouse gas emissions, small as they may be.
We are also strongly committed to the well-being of our employees and contractors. Our annual Employee Satisfaction surveys showed that 100% of our staff feels valued and empowered to make a difference in the team. All our employees can buy company shares and receive dividends. Avieco is also a fun and inclusive workplace: our Social club and Diversity & Inclusion huddle organise regular events to make everyone feel happy and included at work.
Finally, we take huge pride in our indirect impact on society and the environment, through the work we do with our clients. In 2021, we have helped 85+ organisations to measure and reduce their impact, through a variety of projects from impact assessment to target-setting and sustainable business transformation.
