Seasalt is a Cornwall based fashion brand that, for over three decades, has been known for its quality clothing and unique collections. Inspired by coastal culture and creativity, the company has a growing customer following and over 60 stores across the UK and Ireland.

Sustainability is one of Seasalt’s key strategic priorities as a business. The brand was the first fashion company to achieve Soil Association certification back in 2005 with its organic cotton. Since then, Seasalt has continued to grow its sustainability commitments, looking for innovative ways to integrate sustainability across the entire business. Alongside its volunteer work for local charities, Seasalt is constantly exploring opportunities to eliminate and reduce its energy, water and waste footprint.

In 2018, Seasalt took the next step on its sustainability journey and approached Avieco to further understand and address key environmental hotspots across its value chain.

We wanted to understand our initial carbon footprint, assess our current performance and identify a baseline to work from. We had limited in-house resource so needed to approach Avieco for their support.

Identifying the main environmental impact areas for Seasalt

Since 2018, we have worked closely with Seasalt to highlight the most significant areas for CO2, water and waste across the company’s supply chain. We worked closely with the sustainability, procurement, operations and sourcing teams across the company, to collect data for the company’s buildings and supply chain.

We went on to measure the company’s carbon, water and waste footprint, helping to establish a baseline for future initiatives across their buildings, transportation of goods and procurement of goods.

We used our analysis to support Seasalt in the development of a strategic roadmap, helping pave the way for a programme of work that would help them prioritise actions and resources in the years to come on areas that matter the most.   

Sculpting the road ahead for Seasalt’s Sustainability strategy

Our insights have helped Seasalt implement a more defined sustainability strategy around their stores, material sourcing, transport and other areas. This has helped the company continue along its path of sustainability leadership in the fashion industry.

As a business we now have a full understanding of our baseline performance, the comprehensive recommendations have enabled us to focus our resources in key impact areas where we are currently developing commitments and targets.
