Our “Community-led heat projects” guide aims to support communities who want to explore the potential for local heat networks where they live. The guide originates from our experience in supporting communities in planning for and installing heat projects, and has been produced by Avieco and the Swaffham Prior community heat project board, funded by Cambridgeshire County Council, Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority, and the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy.

You may already know what kind of project you want to develop, or just be starting to think about it –this guide will give advice and recommendations to progress your project to the next stage.

There are several development stages for any community energy scheme–we have organised this guide accordingly, with sections on testing the feasibility of a scheme, scheme development, and commercializing and operating schemes. You can start at the beginning and work through, or jump in at a later point if you are further down the road.

The funding round for the Rural Community Energy Fund (RCEF) is now live – with applications due in August. To know more about the process and how we can support your community, in obtaining grants for renewable energy projects, download our Community-led heat projects guide, or visit our RCEF page.
